What's the purpose of the website?
Blacktie-StLouis.com is a clearinghouse of events and planning services for St. Louis's nonprofit organizations and the philanthropists, staffs and volunteers who run them.
What's behind the name "Blacktie?"
Blacktie symbolizes galas - one of the most important vehicles for raising charity funds. It's an easy-to-remember icon, as well. But more than events, Blacktie has come to mean a complete solution for nonprofit organizations that want to reach the widest possible audience by broadening their exposure.
Who can post upcoming fundraisers on the calendar?
Any legitimate nonprofit can post events at no charge, but the information is
limited to the event's time and place. To let the public know more detailed
information such as ticket prices, parking, attire, reservations, on-line
ticket sales, etc., the nonprofit must be a member.

What are the main benefits of membership?
For nonprofit groups and businesses, the site offers a long-range

fund-raisers; easy to use seating chart software, silent auction

bids, the ability to create colorful HTML invites and online
E-Newsletters, an Email Blast to communicate with your various
constituencies; and the
most popular part of our site is photo coverage of at least one major
fund-raiser annually.
What's at the site for individuals?
A private bulletin board for posting your gala tickets in the event you
can't attend; private classified ad section; the ability to create your own

Who are the Principals of Blacktie-StLouis.com?
Georgia Imhoff and Kenton Kuhn. In the mid-1990s, Imhoff, a longtime Denver
volunteer and philanthropist, saw a need for a tool that would list
nonprofits' upcoming fund-raising events. Kuhn, who has been active in
online communicatons since 1986 and the Internet since 1994, built the site.
Today, our members provide us with additional ideas to make the Blacktie
concept more useful. Harry R. Bean, a well-known St. Louis publisher, is the individual
responsible for bringing Blacktie to St. Louis.
