St. Louis 1904 World's Fair Charitable Foundation held its celebrated fundraising event, "A Taste of Italy" benefiting AMC Cancer Research Center Sunday, August 1, 2004 the St. Louis 1904 World's Fair Charitable Foundation held its celebrated fundraising event, "A Taste of Italy" benefiting AMC Cancer Research Center. People began arriving for the gala event at 5:30 PM in the ever elegant surroundings of the Ritz-Carlton St. Louis. The night's festivities featured wine and food tastings presented by 30 plus St. Louis area restaurants, caterers, bakeries and wine merchants. The event offered the live musical entertainment of the Ralph Butler Duo. Rick Edlund (WBTV-11 Lead News Anchor) and Ed Goodman (KEZK 102.5 Morning Show Lead Host) volunteered their time to help us as co-emcees and auctioneers to benefit the AMC Cancer Research Center. Thanks to Jim Olsen, over 30 of St. Louis' finest restaurants donated their signature Italian cuisine, desserts, and beverages that evening. Thanks to Fran Capra and John Walsh for bringing over 150 great silent auction items, plus 12 oral auction items for supporters to bid on. Merchandise, gift certificates, event tickets, theme baskets, trips, services, other extraordinary items, art and two puppies that just melted one's heart ... a beautiful, fluffy, white purebred Bichon and a champion bloodline Yellow Labrador Retriever! Thanks to Missouri Governor Bob Holden, St. Louis City Mayor Francis Slay, St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley, and Archbishop Raymond Burke, who are the Honorary Chairs of our Foundation, along with the local media who attended the event. Keryn Shipman - best known locally as the "The Weather Woman" - is AMC's new Executive Director, as well as a breast cancer survivor! Keryn lost her mom to breast cancer four years ago and gave up being our Chief Meteorologist on local television to help fight cancer. Wine merchants provided samples of their premium wines, much to the delight of the party goers. Rich Pisani, Cicardi Bruce, and Regina Shapiro are co-chairing this black-tie optional event with the help of over 200 volunteers. The 1904 World’s Fair Charitable Foundation is dedicated to bringing people together in all walks of life to help reenergize and revitalize the St. Louis region. The base of support for the Foundation is inclusive, grassroots support which means we want all our citizens to have a seat at the table. We want to look back at the 1904 World’s Fair when St. Louis was at the apex of influence and appreciate that part of our history. "We also want to look forward as a cohesive community to build a world class city with even greater accomplishments in the future.
