Arts and Education Council's St. Louis Arts Award 2005 On Monday, January 31, at 6:00 pm, the Arts and Education Council held its annual St. Louis Arts Awards at the Chase Park Plaza’s Khorassan Ballroom. The evening included cocktails, dinner and entertainment. KFUO-FM radio personality, Jim Connett, served as master of ceremonies. St. Louis Arts Award honorees for 2005 included Priscilla McDonnell for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts; Alison and John Ferring for Excellence in Philanthropy; Community Music School of Webster University, Craft Alliance and Reggie Thomas for Excellence in the Arts; Centene Corporation for Corporate Support of the Arts; and Jan Davis, Ferguson-Florissant School District for Art Educator of the Year. Lifetime Achievement in the Arts: Priscilla McDonnell Priscilla McDonnell has always been an outstanding community volunteer. She is one of the founding members of the Board of Directors for Opera Theatre and Co-Chair of the St. Louis district of the Metropolitan Opera National Council. Priscilla has served or is serving on the board of the Arts and Education Council, Saint Louis Art Museum, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Sheldon Concert Hall, Community Music School of Webster University, Missouri Historical Society, Bach Society of Saint Louis, St. Louis Symphony Society, National Society of Arts and Letters, and Care and Counseling. She was named Variety Club Woman of the Year in 1988 and was elected as a Life Member of Opera Theatre’s Board of Directors in 2001. Excellence in the Arts: Community Music School of Webster University Community Music School of Webster University is celebrating its 80th Anniversary of musical excellence. It is the premiere provider of pre-college music training and performance in the community. Graduates have gone on to Julliard, Eastman, Oberlin to name a few. Located in University City, with branches in Faust Park, Webster Groves, and the Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club. The school has been a funded member of the Arts and Education Council for 41 years. Craft Alliance Craft Alliance is celebrating its 40th Anniversary and has been funded by the Arts and Education since 1986. Craft Alliance brings the world of ceramics, glass, fiber, metals and other media to the community. Programs include education, hands-on workshops, student art advocacy and exhibitions by local and national and internationally recognized artists. Craft Alliance is truly fine craft “start to finish.” Reggie Thomas Reggie Thomas is a jazz pianist and educator. As an educator he teaches at SIUE jazz education, history and theory. He also serves on the summer faculty of several jazz camps around the country including the Eastman School of Music and the Summer Jazz Academy in Poland. As a performer Reggie has toured with many nationally known artists and performs regularly in St. Louis at The Sheldon, Jazz at the Bistro, and the St. Louis Jazz Festival. Excellence in Philanthropy: Alison and John Ferring For many years the Ferrings have demonstrated outstanding philanthropic support in the community. Alison Ferring is an artist and docent for the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis and provides a leadership role on the board of the Sheldon Art Galleries. The Ferring’s generous support has made a difference for the Shakespeare Festival, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, the Sheldon Art Galleries. They made the lead gift in support of COCA’s recent Capital Campaign. Art Educator of the Year: Jan Davis of Ferguson-Florissant School District Jan Davis is currently in her 25th year as a Suzuki string specialist in the Ferguson-Florissant School District at three elementary schools. She has received numerous awards over the years including: 1992 St. Louis Suburban Music Educator Award of Merit, 1993 MoASTA School Educator Award, 1993 Parker Road Elementary Teacher of the Year, Ferguson-Florissant Certificate of Excellence in 1985, 1993, 1997, 2000, 2002, and 2004 and the 2002 Elizabeth A.H.
