Lutheran Family and Children's Services 13th Annual Family Walk
Lutheran Family and Children’s Services of Missouri’s 13th Annual Family Walk was double the fun this year with two walks – one in St. Louis and one in St. Charles, both held on Saturday, April 19, 2008. Both locations offered a 3-mile kid-friendly walk route, 5K competitive run, family games, children’s activities, exhibitor booths and free refreshments provided by Dierbergs.
The St. Louis Walk was held at Forest Park’s upper Muny parking lot and the St. Charles Walk was held at Lutheran High School of St. Charles County on 5100 Mexico Road in St. Peters, Mo.
Registration, check-in and complimentary breakfast began at 7:30 a.m. The festivities began at 8:30 a.m. with the competitive 5K run, walk and activities. Children’s activities, exhibits and food were available from 9 to 11 a.m. An official awards ceremony was held and prizes were given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall men and women.
Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Missouri (LFCS) began in 1868 as an orphan’s home for children in the wake of the Civil War. Ninety-nine years later, the orphanage was sold and the proceeds were used to create an endowment that has strengthened and sustained LFCS for the past 39 years.
Today, LFCS is a statewide organization providing counseling, adoption, crisis pregnancy assistance, foster care, child care, youth mentoring services and disaster relief services, reaching out to more than 22,000 individuals and families annually. LFCS is also a strong advocate for Missouri’s vulnerable families and works to improve the state and federal policies that effect them.
To support the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development of children, Lutheran Family and Children's Services provides a full range of programs to the community. These include infant adoption, international, independent and special needs adoption services, foster care, expectant parent counseling and birth parent services, which offer a comprehensive program of services for women who have used LFCS' parent counseling services.
In a world of vast and rapidly changing human needs, LFCS continues to respond.
