American Liver Foundation's Boogie Ball

American Liver Foundation presented The Second Annual Boogie Ball featuring the Pointer Sisters on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Ameristar Casino Resort Spa. The multi Grammy-award winning Pointer Sisters set the mood for Valentine's Weekend that will be hard to top! Guests were told to break out their bell bottoms and platforms and get "Excited" for an unforgettable night of dinner and disco. The evening began at 7:00 pm with cocktails and heavy hors d'oeuvres, followed by a dance concert of dico proportion, and lasted until the disco ball dropped.

The 2009 leadership award was presented to Dr. William Peck, Director of the Center for Health Policy and the Alan A. and Edith L. Wolff Distinguished Professor of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine. A surprise announcement of the 2009 Volunteer of the Year award went to Janice Hawk.

As the local chapter strives to help people affected by liver disease, we need your help! Get involved and help make a difference in the fight against liver disease. You and your family can volunteer throughout the year, become a member of American Liver Foundation, become a team captain in the annual liver walk, remember the organization in your will, give a gift of securities, and so much more.

The funds raised are returned to the St. Louis community through advocacy, education, and research programs. More than $989,000 has been awarded to local researchers; more than 4,000 people in our community have been screened for hepatitis C and/or vaccinated against hepatitis A & B. The local chapter serves more than 100,000 people annually and reaches millions more people in our community through media outreach. Their advocacy efforts become the voice of a community often underserved and overlooked in today’s crowded public health environment.

There are more than one million people affected by liver disease in the area. Many of these people are unaware that they have liver disease because symptoms oftentimes do not occur until late in the progression of liver disease. Liver disease is poorly understood and poorly funded. With your help, you can make a difference.

Support of this event will help ensure that the American Liver Foundation’s mission continues to flourish in our community for the next 10 years and beyond.
