St Louis for Kids Lighting the Way Celebration 2009 Awards Ceremony & Dinner

St. Louis for Kids held its annual Lighting the Way celebration at the perfect venue--Lumen, May 21, 2009. As guests listened to the numerous and exceptional ways in which St. Louis for Kids has affected the community, a beautiful glow reminded the guests that they also were celebrating the achievements of Deborah Patterson, president of Monsanto Fund and director of social responsibility at Monsanto Company.

Patterson received the Ray of Light award, which was created to recognize partners and supporters of St. Louis for Kids who are doing great work in the community for or with our youth. The distinguished recipients of these awards are familiar with, and uphold, the mission of St. Louis for Kids--improving non-school hour programs for our community's youth.

It is well documented that quality after-school programs keep children safe, improve their academic performance, and support working families. St. Louis for Kids has been building the quality and availability of youth programs across the metropolitan St. Louis region to lower young people's delinquency rate, prevent drug/alcohol abuse, and strengthen their educations.
