St. Louis Area Foodbank's Taste of the NFL

More than 500 people attended St. Louis Area Foodbank's seventh annual Taste of the NFL event on Monday October 12, 2009.  Presented by Boeing and Edward Jones, Taste of the NFL is a food- and wine-tasting party in which attendees sample specialty foods prepared by local restaurants and clubs, bid on unique items, and meet the chefs and Rams’ players. Rams Defensive End Chris Long  served as the honorary chairperson. Proceeds benefited the St. Louis Area Foodbank and the  St. Louis Sports Commission's Sports Foundation and Sportsmanship Initiative.

St. Louis Area Food bank was established in 1975 and has grown to become the Bi-State region’s largest non-profit 501 (c) 3 food distribution center dedicated to feeding those in need. Its mission is feeding hungry people by distributing food through partner agencies and educating the public about the nature of and solutions to the problems of hunger.  In any given week, more then 75,000 individuals in our community rely on the services the Foodbank provides.  For more information contact Matt Dace, mdace@stlfoodbank.org , or 314 423-6100.

The St. Louis Sports Commission represents the independent, privately funded nonprofit organization that benefits St. Louis through sports. Its efforts focus on attracting, creating and managing major sporting events for the St. Louis region – and contributing to its quality of life.  The Sports Commission’s Sportsmanship Initiative seeks to make St. Louis a model community for good sportsmanship and to create more positive environments for kids to play sports so that they will remain active and lead healthier, happier lives.

The organization reaches out to coaches, parents, officials, athletes and fans to make youth sports more enjoyable and to reinforce the ideals of respect, civility, integrity, and fair play at all levels.  For further info contact Brent Schulman via e-mail, bschulman@stlouissports.org , or 314 345-5100.
