Edgewood Children's Center's In The Vineyard

On Saturday, November 14, 2009, Edgewood Children's Center hosted its largest annual fundraiser, In the Vineyard, at Plaza Frontenac. An evening unlike any other, this spectacular wine and cuisine tasting event showcased more than 90 wines from around the world, exquisite dishes from St. Louis' top chefs, and fabulous silent and live auctions. 500 guests attended to raise funds that will help support the programs and services provided by Edgewood Children’s Center.

The following restaurants participated: Annie Gunn’s, Anthony’s Bar, ARAKA, Bissinger’s, Cardwell’s at the Plaza, BC’s Kitchen, The Crossing, Fleming’s, Harvest, Herbie’s Vintage 72, Monarch, Niche, Portabella, and Villa Farotto. Live auction items included a VIP behind-the-scenes tour of "Mad Men" during Season 4 shooting (airfare included), one case of Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon 2003, one case each of Kistler Vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir 2005, Five-year Vertical of Joseph Phelps Insignia Magnums, Bryant Family Vineyards 3-Year Vertical, Four St. Louis Blues Plaza seats and a period in the KMOX booth with Kelly Chase and Chris Kerber, "Green Seats" behind homeplate for 8 St. Louis Cardinal's games, getaways to Hawaii and Arizona.

In The Vineyard tickets went for $100 (Wine Steward) and $200 (Master Sommelier). At both levels, guests sampled the featured wines and exceptional cuisine. The Master Sommelier level also offered access to the Premium Wine section for a special tasting of the finest wines and a chance to win a $500 Plaza Frontenac shopping spree.

This year, Edgewood Children’s Center celebrates 175 years of history and service to the St. Louis community. From Edgewood’s humble beginnings as an orphanage in 1834, the common thread through its history has been keeping kids at the heart of everything it does.

Edgewood has evolved over the years, responding to changes in society and to the needs of children and families. In fact, the ability to adapt to the most pressing needs of children explains why Edgewood survives, and indeed thrives, 175 years after its founding. Today, Edgewood provides specialized therapeutic, educational, and community-based services to more than 300 children and families daily throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area.
